Group Director, Experiential Strategy

You’re a true “T-shaped” strategist well versed in the core principles of strategic planning, but able to go deep when it comes to experiential and brand engagement planning. You are consumer insights-obsessed, and love putting your brain to work understanding consumer behavior, crafting full ecosystem brand experiences, and developing go-to-market strategies that move the needle on business goals. You’re always several steps ahead of the curve when it comes to marketing innovation, particularly excited by the future of experiential marketing, and eager to take brands into the Metaverse. You have a proven track record leading both client strategies and internal teams.

AMP is looking for an entrepreneurial-minded Group Director to help build and grow our Human Experience practice, focused on developing end-to-end brand experiences that span the digital and physical worlds. In addition to leading strategy for several key AMP clients, you’ll be participating in new business pitches and focused on growing a team of experiential, digital, and communications strategists to bring AMP into the future.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Acts as a strategic partner to AMP clients, guiding them towards impactful, unconventional ideas that grow their brands.

  • Provides thought leadership and proactively shapes AMPs POV on the future of marketing, brand ecosystems, and consumer experiences.

  • Builds and manages a team of strategists.

  • Builds strong agency team relationships and collaborates with colleagues across departments and specialities.

Audience Intelligence & Insights Development

  • Performs primary and secondary research on consumer emotions and behaviors including social listening, data analysis, interpreting results and synthesizing recommendations

  • Uncovers insights to inform creative messaging and channel roles

Consumer Experiential Marketing & Ecosystem Planning

  • Designs experiences that are anchored in the physical space and scaled digitally; has worked on immersive experiential campaigns that are physical, digital, and/or hybrid (phygital)

  • Helps contribute to our client’s overarching strategy by developing audience journeys, messaging plans, and designing marketing ecosystems including experiential (digital & physical) recommendations, touchpoint strategies, and roadmaps

  • Partners with Creative, Production, Media and Technology colleagues to develop disruptive ideas at all points of consumer contact

Brief Development

  • Writes creative and tactical briefs to inform how creative comes to life across multiple touchpoints

  • Partners with the Creative and Production teams to adjust and optimize marketing programs based on client needs and to ensure individual program elements stay on strategy

Market Landscape

  • Maintains an acute knowledge of our client’s industry/category with an ability to react quickly to changing market conditions and implement strategically


  • 10+ years in experiential marketing strategy in an agency setting

  • Deep understanding of the media landscape and marketing channels —both offline and online - and the role they play in consumer journeys and brand ecosystems

  • Focus on customer centricity with an innate curiosity to uncover key insights

  • Ability to think strategically

  • Experience with insight tools (Resonate, Mintel, Nielsen, Google…) and interpretation of data and research (quant & qual)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication & storytelling skills

  • Experience managing direct reports

Position Summary

The Sr Director Strategic Planning is management lead of a strategic planning group. Responsible for delivering planning support to the agency client team including competitive insights, syndicated/research data analysis, and custom client research, to drive creative strategy development and agency shopper communications. Responsible for partnership between IN client service and creative and the assigned clients functioning as the ‘voice of the shopper’.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of a team of planners each assigned to categories/channel expertise on a given client(s) ensuring client needs in preparing presentations that contain data and analyses for both internal (client service, field and creative teams) and external (client) use are met.

  • A member of internal Client specific senior management team (assigned to a unique client), positioned as the senior planner on assigned client with specific responsibility of client development in the areas of research, insight, and strategy development.

  • Lead and author presentations, independently as well in mentorship that clearly “connects the dots” of research, data and information, yielding actionable conclusions that result in strategically sound marketing solutions/programs. Provide new business support.

  • Strategic lead on a given piece of business interfacing with clients and client marketing research groups at the management level to promote and build deeper client partnerships in order to advance IN’s connectivity across client departments.

  • Ongoing process improvements to best manage strategic planning, insight, and data requests from clients.

Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

Indirect Reports

May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience: Business, Marketing, Communications, other related experience

  • 12+ years of experience in brand marketing, promotion agency, shopper marketing, or promotional/shopper marketing research

  • Experience using persuasive consulting style to sell-in methods and rationale for strategic plans

  • Experience and proven skill in writing and delivering presentations

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • IRI, Nielsen, and other syndicated research data gathering and analysis experience; usage only.

  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to make oral presentations

  • Ability to visualize and plan objectives and goals strategically

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers

  • Proficient in the use of Market Research, Nielsen/IRI, Simmons, Mintel

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
