Sr. Engineer Database - Business Intelligence (BI)

At our Company, we grow People, Brands, and Businesses!We are seeking a talented Senior Engineer Database - Business Intelligence (BI) to be responsible for assisting the National Technology Manager with project management, systems analysis, and other managerial functions, as well as standard Specialist Technology functions, such as systems maintenance and end user support.

Sr Engineer Database is responsible for architecting, designing, and developing business intelligence, ETL, and database solutions that support Company business units (Sales, Marketing, HR, etc.) and clients. This position serves as the project lead for small to mid-sized projects and primary point of contact for client stakeholders. This role manages stakeholders, gathers requirements, designs solutions, writes and reviews code. The incumbent works with many technologies and serves as the subject matter expert on select technologies or platforms. This role also guides the development of business intelligence, database and reporting projects and owns small to mid-sized systems.

Duties

  • Architect, design, develop, test, and deploy code for business intelligence and database technology platforms

  • Plan and execute efforts to address technical debt for legacy systems and processes

  • Share acquired skills/knowledge with team members and mentor junior engineers

  • Lead efforts to gather and convert business requirements into functional designs and wireframes

  • Architect and develop BI solutions for complex business problems

  • Provide guidance to a team of BI developers, analysts and testers

  • Develop and enforce BI development best practices

  • Lead code reviews and technical exchange sessions

  • Manage the development and maintenance of technical documents

  • Triage and troubleshoot issues in production

  • Identify patterns in user issues and recommend solutions that addresses root causes

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to understand a business process and translate to a data model

  • Ability to analyze ambiguous technical and customer situations and determine appropriate solutions as necessary

  • Advanced skills in analytical design of software to be developed or configured to meet business needs and how that translates into BI initiatives, needs and solutions.

Tools/Software Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in SQL Server Development (TSQL)

  • 5+ years of experience in Postgres/Redshift

  • Excellent experience in AWS services like Lambda (using Python), Data Migration Services, S3 etc

  • Strong experience in ETL tools like SSIS

  • Strong experience in reporting tools like Tableau, Power BI and SSRS

  • Experience in Snowflake, SSAS is a plus

  • Experience in SQL Server administration is a plus

  • Working knowledge of tools and technologies like Talend, Powershell, .NET etc.

Position Summary

The Senior Engineer Database is responsible for assisting the National Technology Manager with project management, systems analysis, and other managerial functions, as well as standard Specialist Technology functions, such as systems maintenance and end user support.

The Senior Engineer Database interfaces with multiple members of the Company's IT team and business units on technical and financial systems support level. The Senior Engineer Database demonstrates an enterprise view and understanding of systems and technologies and is responsible for database design, installation, maintenance, monitoring, and upgrades of database systems. This includes documenting systems in accordance with company standards. The Senior Engineer Database serves as a point of escalation and review for issues or concerns identified by the support team or monitoring services on a 24x7 basis.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Database Technology Solutions Development

  • Provide development across all supported SQL Server features/components such as High Availability , Disaster Recovery, SQL Server monitoring, Data Collection, and others utilizing T-SQL, PowerShell and .Net development tools.

  • Focus on further increasing the levels of automation and self-service.

  • Collaborate with key vendors and Embedded IT teams in providing innovative added value solutions to Company’s SQL Server infrastructure.

Operationalize new SQL Server features

  • Research new SQL Server features and provide recommendations on their implementation in Company environment.

  • Participate in designing and implementing new solutions utilizing SQL Server features.

  • Provide detailed documentation, technical presentations and training for development and support teams.

Problem Resolution and Process Management

  • Drive problem resolution and root cause analysis across the technology stack.

  • Participate in the resolution of database availability, capacity, and performance issues.

  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of internal processes and SQL Server tools.

  • Participate in infrastructure and organizational initiatives across multiple IT disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience: Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in SQL Server Database Administration

  • 3 + years’ experience as a Senior Professional DBA

  • 3 + years’ experience developing applications in Transact-SQL

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of and adherence to SDLC standards

  • Demonstrated ability to interface with collaborative work groups to resolve service issues

  • Ability to participate and drive problem resolution and root cause analysis

  • Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills including the ability to communicate technical and business information to both technical and non-technical people

  • Proven ability to establish strong partnerships with customers, vendors and peers

  • Must be able to work with a diverse workgroup made up of various cultural backgrounds, both remote and local employees

  • Must be able to work both as a team member and independently in multi-tasking fast-paced deadline driven environment

  • This position is required to participate in the Company on-call rotation

  • Requires knowledge of but not limited to Microsoft SQL
